Chawton Last Friday

Friday, the 27th September 2013 was the date scheduled for MacMillan Cancer Support's World's Biggest Coffee Morning. As Mum and Dad were here, I took them to the one held at Chawton House, home of the most impressive Library of Women’s Writing in English 1600 to 1830. Conveniently enough this also meant we could pay a visit to Jane Austen's House.

The coffee morning seemed to be very popular, with cars parked some way up a normally unused stretch of lane. That gave me an opportunity to photograph the church from its best angle before walking up the long drive to the house itself:

After tea and some particularly yummy homemade cakes, we headed onwards to Jane Austen's House. Mum and Dad hadn't been before, so they spent longer than me in the house while I explored the garden:

I met a very friendly cat with extra toes:

I tried to get some close-ups of plants and insects:

And I experimented with still life composition in the kitchen:

After all that, I spotted Louise Allen's book of Jane Austen walks in the gift shop, and then we had lunch in the tea shop across the road.
