A Boxing Day Walk

Like many British families, mine has a tradition of going for a walk on Boxing Day. The morning turned out to be rather foggy in 2013, but after lunch the conditions seemed marginally better so we walked up to the Ladybower Dam and then back (mostly) along the line of the old railway that used to take workers and building materials from Bamford station up to the construction sites for the three dams.


On the way, we paused to look at the remains of the old petrol station:

We walked on the dam wall and looked across the reservoir:

As well as down at the Water Board buildings:

Then we followed a path on the other side, which Mum assured me would join up with the start of the bridleway following the route of the old railway:

However, it turned out to lead us up towards Win Hill, so we turned down the steep stony path alonside the stream and joined the railway track at its foot instead:

Then we got some lovely views across the foggy valley for the rest of our walk:
