Rupert worked in the big pen all morning, encouraging sheep through into the run that led to the dip and pulling out any that appeared lame or otherwise injured for the more experienced farm workers to check. He felt that he was getting the hang of out-thinking the sheep and was hungry rather than tired when they eventually broke for lunch.
"How are you finding it now?" Papa asked as they leaned against the bull-bars on the front of Fred's Land Rover. "Think you can help us dip them after we've eaten?"
"Could I?" Rupert's heart swelled with importance. "You'd let me help do that?"
"You wanted to learn about everything we do, didn't you?"
