Haddon Hall Extras

On 2nd June 2015 (my birthday!) Haddon Hall was offering free guided tours all day. Obviously, I joined one, and while I knew most of the history, I got to see all kinds of features that I hadn't spotted before.

We began our tour in the Lower Courtyard

Where there are many splendid carvings if you look up for them

And you can also go inside King John's Wall

Then we moved on into the Chapel of St Nicholas:

The wall paintings are fabulous...

St Christopher:

The three skeletons who met three kings:

The Garden of Eden:

Look up high again, and there are initials and a date carved into a beam (GM may be George Manners, who died in 1623):

Back on ground level, this font is rather splendid:

Inside the house...

Real antlers on a fake deer head:

Very old dog gates:

In the Dining Room, this carving is thought to be Will Somers, Henry VII's jester:

Upstairs, there was an exhibition of bicycles:

Including this Humber, with its name plate for proof:

And this carving shows a fox bishop preaching to the other animals:

Out in the garden, all the plants looked splendid:

Leaving, I turned back on the bridge to take one last photo:
