Samphire Hoe

On the way back from the castle hunting in my previous post, I passed the signs for Samphire Hoe, and decided to go and look. After my last visit to the Kent coast, I'd already found out that Samphire Hoe was made from 4.9 million cubic metres of the chalk marl dug to create the Channel Tunnel. What I didn't know was that the area is now a nature reserve with stunning views of the white cliffs.





There's around a mile of sea wall and I walked along about half of it



The cliffs look almost as high when viewed from the bottom as they did viewed from the top



Then I walked back across the Hoe itself



I saw interesting plants



And a train on its way to France



While I was there I also bought a baby Samphire plant in a pot, which will hopefully one day be big enough to go out in the garden.
