This month, for the excerpt week I present a set of six sentences from 'The Woman Who Hatched a Fairy's Egg' in my short story collection A Series of Ordinary Adventures. Cynthia and Matthew have dinner at Matthew's house:
“You miss your family?”
“I do.” Matthew ate a couple of pieces of his trout, then took a sip of wine. “Waking up with someone next to me—or knowing there’s a possibility I might later in the week—takes the edge off it. After today’s disappointment, though, I think I’d be better finding a quiet pub to drown my sorrows in when things get bad.”
“You could always come round for dinner and a chat with me,” Cynthia said.
