I've talked about picowrimo before, and have got a lot out of it myself. We get together online twice a year: for one or two months of motivation and feedback.
The latest mid-year PicoWriMo starts on June 1st. You can sign up for June, for July, or for a combination that suits your work and holiday plans. Signing up is unofficial: you show up when the daily posts go up and then report on your progress, and/or encourage and congratulate the others, in the comments.
The original goals of the community, as set out by altariel, are:
There are no goals other than those you set for yourself, and no compulsion beyond what you put upon yourself. There are no limits on genre, style, age, or experience, and both fiction and non-fiction are welcome.
Participants are welcome to post excerpts (rated for a general audience), ask questions and for advice, provide insight into the writing life, and so on. Although we are not a reviewing, editing, or beta-reading community, links to completed stories are also welcome.
The only thing we ask is that you help keep the atmosphere friendly and supportive.
If anyone is interested, ask questions here, or go and look at last November's posts (the other PicoWriMo month) to get a feel for what picowrimo is like. We get people writing original fiction, people from all sorts of fandoms, poets, translators: writers of all kinds. It's a great community for motivation, it's a great place to gain confidence and improve your craft.
