Sudeley Castle and Gardens Part One

Having finished my tour of Shropshire the Friday before last, I called into Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire for a barbeque and then continued on my way to Gloucestershire for two nights staying at the Rising Sun in Cleeve Hill.

On Saturday morning I got up late by my standards, but still made it to Sudeley Castle in time for the morning garden tour. One of the first gardens we passed was this one, depicting Emma Brocklehurst-Dent, the grand Victorian chatelaine of Sudeley Castle:

Also on the tour was this Tudor Physic Garden close to the gatehouse:

Next we walked around the Victorian St Mary's Church, built on the site of Katherine Parr's chapel and saw the walk up to it on the other side, with representations of Katherine and Lady Jane Grey:

We wandered around the Queen's Garden:

And then viewed the Ruins Garden (the one I especially wanted to see), built in the remains of Richard III's Banqueting Hall and designed by Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall to represent the night it was destroyed during the Civil War:

Finally, we explored the Tithe Barn Garden:

The tour at an end, I left the Tithe Barn Garden, and walked back to the Castle to explore the interior, but more on that in another post:
