All the other panels and floorboards seemed solid enough, and Hugh's plan offered no further clues. The other rooms on that level were equally uninspiring, with even the loose brick in the chimneybreast of the servants' hall – marked on the plan, but not difficult to find for any reasonably curious boy – offered up only a handful of rather grimy pre-decimal coins. Rupert shoved them into his pocket; he doubted they'd be valuable, even when properly cleaned up. But at least they'd be something to show Hamish, Clarence and his other friends, if his searches failed to turn up anything better.
