The tour we went on was aimed at "Artists, Creatives and Organisations" and Dad was rather outnumbered by the women, but still enjoyed himself quite a lot. The refurbishment has taken place in conjunction with a two year Artist in Residence appointment, and a lot of effort has been put into creating a user-friendly, non-corporate space with colour-coding to demark the different areas of the building and their functions.
We got to see the stores:
And a selection of the different documents that are counted as records (even the way they were stored was an artform in itself):
The records are currently indexed by their contents, but the archivists have noticed that some visitors just want to see a type of record -- such as really good handwriting from a particular era -- that they don't currently have indexing for. That may change eventually however.
Later this week, I'll be visiting the Hampshire Archives for a slightly different type of tour.
